Jersey Mike’s Subs raises more than $600,000 for 66 different local charities During Nationwide “Month of Giving”

Wrap-Up Press Release

Tens of thousands of Jersey Mike’s Subs aficionados throughout the country made a difference this March during Jersey Mike’s “Month of Giving” by helping to raise more than $600,000 for 66 different local charities nationwide. The campaign was held in celebration of the East Coast-style sub franchise’s 55th Anniversary.

Throughout the month, customers made donations to local charities at area Jersey Mike’s stores. Customers making a $5 donation received six specially branded Jersey Mike’s Silly Bandz and a coupon for a free chip and a drink. One hundred percent (100%) of Silly Bandz sales were donated to the local charity. A percentage of sales during the month were also donated.

The campaign culminated on March 28 with “Make a Difference Day” when customers all around the country were invited to make a minimum contribution of $1 to their local Jersey Mike’s store’s chosen charity in exchange for a free regular size sub or, in some markets, a “buy one regular sub, get one free” offer. The hope was that people would be inspired to give even more -- and they did.

“Due to the generosity of our customers and franchisees, we were able to bring needed funds to deserving, yet often under-capitalized, organizations,” said Peter Cancro, founder and CEO of Jersey Mike’s Franchise Systems.  “The groups, from hospitals to youth organizations, make our communities vital and we are proud to support their efforts.”

Long before the term “cause-related marketing” even existed, Cancro was practicing it. Only 17 years old when he bought a small but immensely popular sub shop on the Jersey Shore in 1956, Cancro was so impressed by the spirit of giving back demonstrated by local business owners that, from the start, he ensured “giving - making a difference in someone’s life” was a key part of Jersey Mike’s mission along with making the best sub sandwich in the industry.

Next up, Jersey Mike’s is launching a six-month fundraiser to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.  For this campaign, the company is upping the ante, based on its past successes, to raise even more for the charity.

Intro Press Release

Jersey Mike’s Subs Teams Up With Local Charities For Month Of Giving In March

Jersey Mike’s Subs Stores are joining forces with their local charities in a March “Month of Giving” fundraising campaign. The campaign will culminate in a nationwide event, Jersey Mike’s “Make A Difference Day” on March 28.

During the month of March, customers can make a donation to local charities at their local Jersey Mike’s store. Customers making a $5 donation will receive six specially branded Jersey Mike’s Silly Bandz and a coupon for a free chip and a drink. One hundred percent (100%) of Silly Bandz sales will be donated to the selected charity.

“Make A Difference Day” will take place at Jersey Mike’s stores nationwide to benefit more than 60 different charities in celebration of the Northeast-style sub franchise’s 55 th Anniversary. On March 28, everyone is invited to make a minimum contribution of a dollar in exchange for special offers at each local Jersey Mike’s Store... although the hope is that customers will respond by giving even more.

Long before “cause-related marketing” became popular, reaching out to the community was a key component of Jersey Mike’s mission. All franchise owners find ways to support their neighbors and employees are encouraged to volunteer their time and talents as well.

“Early on I learned from my mentors, local businesspeople, the importance of giving back to the community,” said Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike’s founder and CEO.  “That is the model I chose for Jersey Mike’s and we have been doing it since the beginning. The philosophy of giving back is important to us and that’s why we chose to celebrate the milestone marking our 55 th year with our first ever ‘Make a Difference Day’, a national effort to ensure deserving charities get the funding they need.”
